Culture

The Arctic Winter Games celebrates culture, and creates in the participants, an awareness of cultural similarities and dissimilarities. Cultural exchange and social interaction are important parts of the Games. Each participating country or region contributes with performances  in dance, song, music, plays or art. These cultural events reflect the traditional as well as the modern cultures of the Arctic.

OPENING & CLOSING

With “Our Home – Your Home” we have created a legend and mythical dream universe. The Opening and Closing Ceremoies are two-hour long cultural extravaganzas, focusing on the AWG2016’s community, curiosity and courage.  NunaFonden has contributed to ensuring that it is possible to engage Greenlandic artist from North, South and East Greenland in a show that encompasses both traditional and contemporary Greenlandic and Circumpolar artists. Behind the scenes a Nordic stage crew is alongside Greenlandic stage technicians. Together with NAPA, AWG2016 to present the best of our cultures and our cultural heritage.

NAPA - the Nordic Institute in Greenland is a cultural institution under the Nordic Council of Ministers. We support sustainable culture for youth and children within the nordic countries.
Since 2006 NAPA has produced the cultural show from Greenland to Arctic Winter Games and also this year we proudly present the musical 'Since then'. We are also part of the Steering Committee in culture and supports the opening and closing ceremony.
